Concern has been expressed about St. Clare of Montefalco being ready for remote instruction if/when it may be called for at any point in the upcoming school year. I would like to assure all of you St. Clare of Montefalco teachers will be ready for face to face and for a remote option on the very first day of school.
I sat on the Archdiocese of Detroit Remote Learning Committee. The committee spent weeks developing the lesson plan framework for all archdiocese schools to use if schools needed to go remote. The teachers were given the outline of this remote weekly lesson plan and will be able to move right into remote instruction if need be.
I believe families will be pleased with the plan. The school day will have students led by teachers multiple times during it with everyone starting at the same time led in live prayer with Ms. Crowley just like a regular school day. Reading and Math lessons will happen every day live. Social Studies and Science will alternate in two to three week sessions to prevent jumping around so much. Teachers are being trained in Google Classroom as that will be the platform all the students will use at the school. The school bought the Freckle Program which is an upgrade from IXL. The STAR testing (no longer using Iowa) that will measure academic growth is supported in the curriculum standards of the Freckle Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies programs. The regular grading system will be implemented. Pass/fail will not be an option. Special Classes will happen at their regularly scheduled times as well. The school day will look pretty much like a regular school day. I may require students to wear uniforms if we go remote so that they understand the parameters of the expected school day.
Generous donations have also provided the purchase of chrome books for all students in grades three through eight. These devices will be programed with Google Classroom upon immediate use by the student. They should arrive to school around mid September as there is a tremendous demand for devices by school districts all over the world. The younger grades will use the ipads we used this past year.
St. Clare of Montefalco is good to go in any format. I hope this information puts your mind at ease. Know that as I receive information I will send eblasts to you with the updates. You will be kept in the loop. Remember we will have orientation the week of August 24
th with specific details around everything we can possibly provide to you.
