I hope you all enjoyed your extended Winter Break with our additional Snow Day tagged onto it. We returned to a busy Wednesday. It was Ash Wednesday. The older students went to mass in person and younger students livestreamed. Ashes were received by everyone in the school by having them sprinkled over the head. The 100
th day of school was celebrated in some of the classrooms from kindergarten through GD 8. Chicken wings were dissected in grades six and seven and of course it was pizza day at lunch time which everyone loved.
Attendance remains very good. I extend thanks to the families who traveled over break and are implementing the appropriate quarantining measures for their families.
During Catholic Schools Week the school community made donations to Veterans currently at the John D. Dingell Hospital in the Detroit Medical Center. The back of the hard copy Newsletter is a copy of their thank you letter to the school.
Stations of the Cross/Lenten Offerings– All classes participated in Stations of the Cross either in the church or in their classrooms. They will continue to participate every Friday at 12:30. Lenten offerings were written on crosses and will be hung on the tree we used for Christmas outside the school. It will remain lit and instead of decorations, the crosses will remind the young people of the commitments they made during these 40 days.
Black History Month –Students are being encouraged to present at announcements a person or event that are significant to them. Encourage your child to participate. Just a few lines need to be shared. This week we learned about Marian Anderson and Bessie Coleman. See if your children remember who they are.
Jump Rope for Heart – Don’t forget. We are participating in Kids Heart Challenge! Our goal is for EVERY student to register, take a heart healthy challenge, and wear that wristband! Register your children today.
