Hello to St. Clare Parish from the St. Clare School Sixth Grade. We are having a great year in Room 13! We welcomed 4 new students in September; then, in October we had a fun time at YMCA Camp Storer where we rode the Little Red Wagon, went on a Night Hike, and mostly realized how well we all get along.
Every year 6
th grade is responsible for raising and lowering the American Flag, along with our school flag, at the pole on Charlevoix. To learn about the proper way to care for the flag and how to raise, lower and fold it the right way, Officers Murphy and Gunther of the Detroit Mounted Police came to teach Kayla and Lilly how to be our flag team. They also taught us to have reverence for the flag and when to put it at half-mast as we did when President Bush died. When we were done they took Ivan and Andre, their two male Percheron horses, out of the trailer for the whole school to see and pet and learn about.
This year our little buddies are the kindergarteners. We made spider hats with them and we had a Thanksgiving feast with them! We ate cornbread, pomegranates, roasted vegetables and ginger snaps.
A new thing we have to do as 6
th graders is exchange to 4 other classrooms every day. Thursdays are tiring because we carry all our books for class exchanges in the morning. Also new to us was choosing a class for ourselves this year. Some of us chose Band and others chose Study Skills. Finally, we are now old enough to take Latin Class during Silent Reading if we want.
6
th grade has 2 representatives for Student Council, 6 students in Choir, 5 students in Latin Class, 6 boys on the basketball team, and 6 students were on the soccer team. Kamari and Kiernan won the Turkey Trot this year and brought home a turkey! This weekend 3 of us are going to participate in the forensics competition at Grosse Pointe Academy on Saturday. Then we’ll all have fun at the Snow Ball Dance at night!
We hope you are having a hopeful, peaceful, joyful, loving Advent season,
