We welcomed five new families to our school Wednesday. Preschool students Amelia Coppola, Charlee Piornack, and Jack Starr along with Grade 1 student, Milana Manousakakis, and Grade 8 student, Devin Peoples became our newest Falcons. Growth is always a positive addition to our school and parish community.
The success of remaining face to face made us very optimistic around being able to incorporate group activities that are such a part of our school identity. Plans were all in the works and the last Tentative Calendar was printed in color because we just knew we were good to go. After attending a meeting on Wednesday, as the principal responsible for the safety of everyone in our school, I made the decision with guidance from my Associate Superintendent that some of our activities needed to be cancelled or scaled back significantly. I was in discussion with other principals as to what they were doing in their schools and they, too, had already decided to cancel Christmas programs, Thanksgiving gatherings, and Halloween parties. Talk about being the bearer of bad news, well, this just needs to be done if we want to remain safe and face to face. Travel quarantining is also being implemented in schools as I addressed briefly in the e-blast sent home yesterday. A comprehensive Travel Plan and Quarantine Process for Returning will be sent out next week. I wanted to make sure you were aware of this as the holidays are approaching. Thank you to those who are traveling this weekend and contacted me today. Many of the decisions will be on a one to one basis after talking with me. Just like attendance and how everyone keeps children home if at all sick, this travel policy (as well as for visitors who may come to your house from high COVID areas) will rely on honesty of all of us. Here it is October 15
th and we have not had one COVID case at all in our school. We have no exposures thanks to the honesty and diligence of all our families.
You have a calendar coming home today as well. See that the Christmas Program has been cut out and Halloween will just be costumes for the day. The Turkey Trot will not happen either as it takes many volunteers to conduct and as the uptick is upon us we do not think we could protect everyone. Parents still have not entered our school building so our children have been totally protected in their cohort groups. We will stay with this for right now.
